The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

In collaboration with, and under the line management of the Head of Sub-delegation and the technical supervision of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) delegate, the Psychologist contributes to developing, organizing, implementing, and monitoring Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities, according to ICRC MHPSS program reference and the objectives set out in the delegation's annual planning (PfR) for Aljunaina (ALJ) area of responsibility (AoR) and other ICRC accessible areas as deemed necessary. Based on the skills required for this position, s/he has the capacity to oversee programs at community level and in healthcare facilities, including MHPSS services for hospitalized weapon wounded and people with physical disabilities. S/he provides capacity building of MHPSS practitioners and healthcare workers, by training and coaching them to offer direct support to people affected by armed conflict, other situations of violence and emergencies, ensuring the continuum of care.

Accountabilities & functional responsibilities

•  Contributes to the assessment, design, and development of MHPSS services for people affected by violence at community and health facility levels, including hospitalized weapon-wounded and survivors of sexual violence.
•  Supports the integration of MHPSS services at community level and into ICRC-supported health facilities, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach with other ICRC departments.
•  Facilitates the delivery of culturally appropriate MHPSS activities through awareness sessions, individual consultations and group support sessions, in the AoR.
•  Applies culturally/context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools in line with the ICRC MHPSS framework, ensuring quality, confidentiality, and regular data collection.
•  Develops detailed MHPSS referral pathways in the AoR and builds links with internal and external service providers to ensure continuity of care.
•  Trains and supports MHPSS staff from the ICRC and other organizations/partners/teams as per the program strategy.
•  Monitors the quality, relevance and effectiveness of MHPSS activities throughout implementation.
•  Prepares timely and accurate reports on MHPSS activities, including quarterly and ad-hoc reports.
•  Works closely with the MHPSS Delegate to identify technical challenges and needs for capacity building, propose solutions, and implement guidance.

Desired profile and skills

•  Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
•  Able to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environment

Certifications / Education required

•  University degree in clinical psychology (minimum 3 years' university study).
•  Fluent command of English and Arabic language.
•  Computer proficiency.

Professional experience required

•  2 to 5 years of overall professional experience with minimum 2 years' experience in MHPSS program.
•  Proven experience in clinical psychological case management
•  Previous experience in capacity building (training and supervision) of volunteers and/or professionals and working with vulnerable groups.
•  Experience supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence is an asset.
•  Experience in managing teams is an asset.
•  Red Cross/Red Crescent experience an asset.
•  Good knowledge of geographically assigned environment.
•  Humanitarian experience an asset
