Traffic Engineer, Atkins, Dubai, UAE

 Atkins are currently looking for a qualified Traffic Engineer with between 3 to 5 years’ experience to join our Regional Transport Planning Team in the Middle East.

The candidate will be a degree-qualified professional with traffic engineering, transport planning and traffic modelling experience. Ideally they will also hold a Master’s qualification in a related field. Knowledge of Middle East and/or International Traffic Engineering standards and practices is required and transport modelling experience is considered an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities

This role requires contributing to a variety of traffic engineering and transport planning studies including large scale transport master plan assessments, traffic impact studies or multi-disciplinary planning projects in the public and private sectors. This would involve the following responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Project Managers and other Atkins departmental staff to ensure timely completion of the necessary analysis, reports and plans as assigned;

  • Completion of assigned tasks;

  • Adherence to Atkins Quality Manual and Procedures;

  • Coordination with internal design disciplines as well as external stakeholders / statutory authorities; and

  • Application of technical competencies.

Essential Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of degree in Civil Engineering or transportation and over three years related professional work experience after university graduation;

  • Understanding of traffic engineering, parking requirements, development / access planning, public transport issues and transport demand theory;

  • Project experience in the Middle East and familiarity with local trends and transport planning practices and standards;

  • Practical understanding of the role and importance of transport planning in development access, citywide mobility and assisting people’s needs;

  • Experience in providing the appropriate junction analysis to assist traffic impact assessments;

  • Contribute to preparation of traffic engineering transport planning reports including existing conditions analyses, trip generation, junction analysis and parking assessments;

  • Competence with Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively, both written and spoken;

  • Must be able to learn and retain new skills quickly from a variety of sources;

  • Must be able to work with limited supervision;

  • Some experience project/financial management;

  • Competence to assist in growing the Atkins Transport Planning Business as well as to sell Atkins services generally;

  • Must be familiar with working to corporate Quality Assurance Systems;

  • Must be willing to travel internationally;

  • Hands on experience in junction / capacity analysis software SIDRA & SYNCHRO and HCM.

  • Familiarity with CAD Software

  • Familiarity with modelling software such as VISUM/VISSIM & SATURN.

Desirable

  • Capable of communicating in Arabic effectively, both written and spoken;

  • Capable of presenting Transport Planning Projects to an unskilled audience;

  • Hands-on experience and capability of using micro-simulation such as VISSIM.
