Universal American School is currently looking to hire exceptional, passionate and suitably-qualified educators to join its MS/HS school team in August 2022.
This position reports to the Secondary School Principal.
The School
Universal American School is a PreK-12 US curriculum and IB World® school offering the IBPYP in the elementary, a tailored programme in the middle school based on AERO and NGSS, and a choice of the IBDP, AP/AP Capstone or US High School Diploma pathways at the top end of the school. Universal American School is accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS), the International Baccalaureate (IB) and operates under the local regulator in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The school was rated “Very Good” in its latest inspection by the KHDA in 2018/2019.
Universal American School is run on a not-for-profit basis and is part of the Al Futtaim Education Foundation (AFEF). Founded in 2005, the school has delivered an inclusive, diverse and academically sound programme to thousands of students year on year. Our alumni have gone on to study at leading institutions of higher education in the US, Canada, the UK and other parts of the world.

The Department:
The Secondary School at UAS (G6-G12) at UAS is committed to academic excellence. As a teacher at UAS, the ideal candidate will plan and facilitate exciting and rigorous lessons that not only develop students’ skills, but also engage them in deep conversations and/or analyses of a multi-cultural and carefully curated curriculum content. Through enabling educational technology and a systematic approach to data collection and analysis, the ideal candidate will ensure that all student needs are met and that opportunities for further and more personalized learning are constantly created. UAS promotes the IB learner attributes in and outside the classroom by challenging students to set goals, communicate in inquiry-based discussions, research relevant global issues, take risks with creative projects, and extend their learning.
The Role:
Universal American School is looking for educators who can:
- Enthuse, excite and pique curiosity whilst maintaining rigour and academic focus
- Challenge students, each at a level appropriate to their ability, whilst maintaining high expectations of all at all times
- Deliver outstanding lessons by ensuring, day in and day out, that ALL students are making rapid and sustained progress
- Collect data and use it meaningfully to inform their planning and instruction
- Use technology meaningfully and transformatively (ideally in an iOS environment)
- Be part of an exciting journey towards uncompromising excellence.
In addition to the above, the successful applicant will be required to have the following:
• A bachelor degree in the subject or a related field with a recognized post-graduate teaching qualification (PGCE/PGDE)
• A master’s degree (desirable)
• IBDP-approved training (essential for IB Diploma teachers ONLY); IBDP examination experience would be a plus
• Relevant classroom experience of 3 years or more (applicants who do not meet this requirement might still be considered depending on the strength of their application)
• Cultural savviness/sensitivity and the willingness to work in a fast-paced and high expectations environment
• A growth mindset, resilience and an unwavering commitment to personal growth
