 Minimum qualifications:

• Experience in the Middle East and North Africa region within; government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporations.
• Experience leading policy teams and initiatives for an organization.
• Ability to speak and write in English and Arabic fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

• Proven track record of working independently with a wide array of functional groups.
• Demonstrated ability to understand the business implications of public policy and experience working closely with cross functional teams.
• Ability to identify key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals and communicate business and policy implications to internal/external stakeholders.
• Excellent communications and government relations skills.
• Highest levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity with a strong professional reputation.

• About the job

  As a member of Google's Public Policy team, you help shape various product and issue agendas with policy makers inside and outside government. In addition, you will help advise our internal teams on the public policy implications of their products, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team. The role requires significant experience either working with or in government, politics or a regulatory agency as well as an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues.

  As the Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for MENA, you will have the opportunity to work with a stellar team on cutting edge technology issues. You will lead our Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team and handle our various product agendas with policy makers inside and outside government across the region.

  Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

• Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and lead Google government affairs and public policy objectives in the region.
  • Work collaboratively within a global team to develop public policy strategies and positions for Google, including the creation of materials supporting advocacy on those positions.
  • Identify and address regulatory challenges and opportunities for business objectives in key regulated industries in partnership with Government Affairs and Public Policy colleagues. This includes collaborating with business units to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy activities and goals.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for Google to address government challenges and opportunities while also working with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other allies.
