The WHS function is part of the Operation teams and supports our Amazon associates worldwide who are responsible for controlling the vast range of ways we serve customers. They work very hard to ensure that our customers receive what they want, when they want it, and we want to ensure they are able to do so as safely as possible, and as a responsible member of the communities, we serve.
Here at Amazon we seek an experienced WHS Professional to join the Workplace Health and Safety Governance team and play a critical role in supporting Amazon’s WHS audit program. The successful candidate will administer operational standards, review and recommend approval of new standards, and collaborate in the rollout and verification of the new standards for WHS auditing. You will work collaboratively with many areas of the business to recommend standards that ensure WHS excellence but are flexible enough to remain relevant for our diverse business and operations in Asia Pacific, Middle East & North Africa, and Latin America.
Key job responsibilities
· Manage the WHS audit program for Middle East & North Africa and international emerging markets
· Support WHS audits strategic delivery – recommend the scope, team leadership and implementation of WHS Audits - internal audits, regulatory compliance audits and data verification audits.
· Recommend and support a plan for internal audit execution, and partner with the standards team to create a continuous loop of feedback that will enable standards that achieve WHS excellence.
· Support the design, development, implementation and execution of globally standardized audit ISO 45001 programs.
· Support audit teams, contribute to the creation of strategies for internal auditors.
· Gathers, interprets, and uses complex data to develop actionable steps that will improve processes and optimize results. Assess company and customer obsession needs, receives robust information, and analyzes it, providing trends and network areas for improvement.
· Collaborate with globally approved third party WHS auditors.
· Participate in audits, lead audits and coach internal auditors where needed.
· Recommend new WHS strategies/programs/technology that are relevant to audit and/or enhance existing strategy and lead from concept to delivery. Support the adoption of WHS strategy, and influence change across stakeholders via audits.
· Stay attuned to changing regulations and internal WHS performance to recommend changes to audit plans when required.
· Learn and monitor Amazon’s plans for growth, in new geographies as well as new businesses, and recommend adjustments to audit programs to reflect new risks.
· Measure business and site performance against published requirements in WHS standards. For all deficiencies, ensure plans are implemented to address areas of weakness.
· Perform global trending of audit reports to identify common issues. Work with operations WHS partners and early intervention teams to recommend changes that address deficiencies.
About the team
We are an international governance team that obsesses over the workplace health and safety of our associates and partners around the world. The role is in the 'Rest of World' Team partnering with operations in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, as well as contributing to global programs. It's a collaborative team bringing together expertise in regulatory affairs, WHS management systems and auditing.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational, Health and Safety (OSH), Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), or other related fields from an accredited university
10+ years prior safety experience
ISO 45001 lead auditor certification or training
Availability to travel globally and work scheduled shift hours as needed
Top level producer of trends and analysis
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
Used to operating at all levels of the organization from warehouse floor to board level
Comfortable speaking ad hoc in front of large groups of people
Open to travel 30-40%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
International experience auditing or implementing safety management systems.
Bilingual Arabic and English.
