Role overview:
As an insurance underwriter, you will be responsible for analyzing insurance applications, assessing risks, and making informed decisions on coverage and pricing. you will work closely with agents, brokers, and internal teams to ensure accurate risk evaluation and compliance with underwriting guidelines. your expertise in risk assessment, strong communication skills, and attention to detail will contribute to the success of our underwriting department.
Key responsibilities:
- evaluate insurance applications and associated documentation to assess risks and determine coverage eligibility.
- analyze and interpret data, such as loss history, financial statements, and underwriting reports, to make informed decisions.
- apply underwriting guidelines, internal policies, and regulatory requirements to determine appropriate coverage and premiums.
- collaborate with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders to obtain additional information, clarify details, and negotiate terms, if necessary.
- conduct risk assessments and evaluations, considering factors such as industry trends, claims history, and market conditions.
- communicate underwriting decisions to agents, brokers, and customers in a clear and professional manner.
- provide guidance and support to internal teams, such as claims and customer service, on underwriting-related matters.
- stay updated on industry developments, emerging risks, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting decisions.
- maintain accurate records and documentation of underwriting activities, adhering to data protection and confidentiality guidelines.
Qualifications and skills:
- bachelor's degree in insurance, risk management, business administration, or a related field.
- proven experience as an insurance underwriter or similar role within the insurance industry.
- strong knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting guidelines, and risk assessment techniques.
- analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound underwriting decisions.
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain underwriting decisions effectively.
- detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and data integrity.
- strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- proficiency in insurance underwriting software and microsoft office suite.
- familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
