WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH:
In 2019, Bain created its corporate incubator (“Baincubator”) to incubate new business ideas and launch new ventures.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
This is an opportunity to be a part of Bain’s corporate incubator. This position will be dedicated to one venture in the current Founder’s Studio cohort.
Responsibilities will include leading the engineering development of the Founder’s Studio venture:
Building consumer-level applications (web, desktop, mobile) for enterprise - with a focus on design and usability
Solving complex challenges such as performance, scalability, and security
Growing and scaling our product and servers, applying the latest technologies and best practices
Leading a team of Bain engineers (or contractors) and working closely with product, operations, and sales team members
Development will be focused on delivering a production-ready product that extends beyond proof-of-concept / minimal-viable-product
Developed product is expected to be used by both Bain teams and external clients
The person in this role will need to:
Lead the engineering work, building an innovative solution for complex organizations, at scale
Translate product objectives into engineering strategy, infrastructure, and tasks to deliver desired customer experience
Communicate with Founder’s Studio central team and other venture leadership to share key learnings and grow Bain’s product development capabilities
Responsibilities & Duties
Lead back-end and front-end development effort, including input into hiring, training, and managing engineering resources
Have ultimate responsibility for quality of engineering efforts, including reviewing pull requests, finding and raising bugs, and specifying engineering approaches
Have detailed understanding of full product codebase - should be able to write and deploy code to aid feature development
Propose high-level architecture for the product, and work with engineers to implement the architecture
Identify talent needs to achieve product roadmap, and source / interview candidates to make hiring recommendations
Develop proof of concept code that can be used to guide engineers
Ensure engineering best practices are followed
Collaborate with sales and operations team to support customers
Provide first line of defense for diagnosing and triaging customer issues
Ensure engineers are provided with the necessary information to resolve bugs
Implement bug-fixes for time critical bugs for high value customers
Create minimal-viable-product for venture team to validate concepts
Identify appropriate technology stack to solve business problem
Develop a minimal SaaS product using full stack development tools, including database, backend, and frontend engineering
Write initial codebase in a way that will allow future engineers to improve the product
Collaborate with product team on feature roadmap
Determine technical feasibility of proposed features
Highlight alternative approaches which provide the business value while limiting required engineering time
Ensure features that improve engineering efficiency are prioritized appropriately
Assess and qualify vendors (contractors, tools, data) / keep abreast of new technologies to ensure venture maintains state-of-art architecture / Codify learnings and best practices
Select appropriate engineering contractors to achieve business goals
Identify new technologies that can meaningfully improve the business objectives
Encourage experimentation within engineering team, and ensure learnings from successful experiments are implemented in production
Create documents that engineers can leverage to improve the engineering process
ABOUT YOU:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree or PhD with significant relevant experience providing advanced analytics solutions. The degree should be in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or a related data centric field
- Excellent software engineering talent: 5+ years of experience with software development in a consumer or SaaS product
- Demonstrated deep technical and data science expertise, acute strategic and analytical skills, ability to lead and persuade, drive and energy, and desire to work in a project based environment on strategic issues.
- Strong record of professional accomplishment and leadership.
- Fluency in Python is required
- Fluency in other scripting languages is a plus (e.g., Java)
- Fluency in English is required
- Previous experience in a top-tier management consulting firm is preferred
- Interest in ESG topics is strongly valued
