 Welocalize is looking for Language Specialists with outstanding writing skills and creative minds to participate in a project that will help shape the future of chatbot technology in many languages. Imagine first that you have some problem that you want to solve (maybe with your insurance, or with a retailer, or with an airline, etc.). You call the company’s customer support telephone line to get help, and a computer chatbot answers. Here is where your work on this project would begin.


Your job will be to imagine a particular customer support situation and then write up examples of things you (and people you know) might say on the phone. We call these statements “utterances.” For example, we may ask you to imagine that you want to change your flight for a trip you have already scheduled. You would then write up several different things you or someone might say in that situation. Each of the utterances you write would need to be different, using different kinds of words and styles. You need to be very creative and write variations of each sentence in a way that uses as many new words as possible and uses an entirely different sentence structure. And you need to be fast! When you write an utterance, we want you to think about the kinds of references someone from your country would make (specific companies, specific government entities, specific local currency, specific local slang, specific local brand names).

Skills:

The specific job task will be to create one sheet of utterances per task. There will be several prompts (scenarios) on the sheet, and the creator will create several variants for expressing an utterance that relates to the prompt. All specific rules regarding spelling, grammar, punctuation, glossary term usage, and other specialized conventions (orientation will be provided) MUST be followed. If not, the creator will be provided with feedback and asked to edit their sheet of utterances until it complies with our quality standards.

- Native-level fluency in the target language (written and spoken) and great spelling and grammar are required. Preferred candidates will also be familiar with the target language used by a wide range of speakers from ages 15-70, primarily from urban and suburban settings.
- Advanced English comprehension (spoken and written); able to understand training materials, instructions, and creative writing prompts written in English.
- Ability to follow nuanced linguistic instructions (e.g., Do not use numerals in your writing. Write out all numbers. Do not use “1”. Do use “one”).
- Ability to hit demanding deadlines by learning how to work in efficient ways.
- Rich vocabulary, knowledge of local market conditions, knowledge of local-market slang.
- Extensive knowledge in local-market insurance, financial, and health care systems (work experience in these sectors is not necessary, but knowledge as a consumer of these systems is critical).
- Ability to analyze writing prompts (scenarios) and adapt them to local cultural reality.
- Efficient online research skills.
- Preferred: documented work experience as a writer (journalism, creative writing, preferred).

Project Details:

Duration: Through April 2022
Start Date: January
Pay Rate: Average USD 20 per task/sheet depending on complexity
Schedule: Weekly commitment of 10-25 hours

Training Period: Creators will receive project orientation & training in January 2022. Orientation will include completing some online modules, some video conference calls, and doing some sample tasks with direct personalized feedback. Training will last for approximately 2 hours, and it will be unpaid. Payment will only kick in once you successfully complete your first task.

This is a remote and freelance role.
Native-level fluency in Arabic from Kuwait (written and spoken).

The School offers several trendy programs such Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Systems (Software Development, Mobile & Web Development, and Database Design & Administration), Bachelor of Applied Science in Data Science and AI (AI & Data Analytics, AI & IoT), Bachelor of Applied Science in Data & Cyber Security (Ethical Hacking, Cyber Defense, Industrial Control Systems Security, Cyber Security Policy and Governance), and Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology (Computer Systems, Network Systems, and Cloud Computing & Big Data).

Duties & Responsibilities:

The primary role of the faculty members at the School of Computing and Information Technology is to promote high-quality innovative teaching, applied research, and services. Besides, he/she should collaborate with the Department Chair, School's Dean, and the colleagues to achieve the department and School mission, mentor junior colleagues, and teaching assistants, and support the department and the School with several administrative and academic services.

Reporting to the Department Chair, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of a broad range of courses. Particular areas of interest include Software Engineering, Web and Mobile Development, and Database Design and Administration; but candidates with strong expertise in other related areas will also be considered.

Other duties include evaluation of student progress and management of resources of the learning environment. The successful candidate will liaise with industry and other educational institutions; participate in industry advisory committees and coordinate, manage and control projects within the specified program area. Faculty members will keep course portfolio documents required for accreditation processes and engage in instructional development/improvement plans. All employees are expected to contribute to professional and community life within the College and beyond.

Qualifications

For Assistant Professor

A PhD degree in a computing field such as Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field. Three years teaching experience in a higher-education environment, along with three years of employment experience as a practitioner/professional within a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates should also be recognized in the following criteria:

  • Contribution to the advancement of knowledge through applied research, scholarship, publication, knowledge transfer or professional practice which would be expected to be international in its scope; A minimum of 2 journal articles indexed in Scopus or similar are required.
  • Contribution to the advancement of learning by the leadership of teaching and curriculum development;
  • Professional recognition and standing amongst peers;
  • Academic subject leadership or academic management.

For Associate Professor

A PhD degree in a computing field such as Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field. A minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a higher-education environment is required. Also, 5 years of Industrial experience as a practitioner/professional within a relevant discipline is preferred. Candidates should also be recognized in the following criteria:

  • Contribution to the advancement of knowledge through applied research, scholarship, publication, knowledge transfer or professional practice which would be expected to be international in its scope; A minimum of 5 journal articles indexed in Scopus or similar are required.
  • Contribution to the advancement of learning by the leadership of teaching and curriculum development;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in Computing and Information Technology.
  • Record of successful participation/leadership in applied research projects.
  • Experience in leadership and innovation in technology based projects.
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Education (e.g. Post-Secondary Education, Adult Education or Vocational Education).

Other Required Skills: 

  • Knowledge and work experience in different areas of Computing and IT systems as indicated above.

Overview / Responsibilities

Mustang and Faisal Jamil Al Hejailan Engineering Consultancy (Wood Al Hejailan joint venture) has a long and successful history of operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Wood, with its joint venture partners, is currently searching for a forward thinking, engaging finance leader who understands and has a working knowledge of the Saudi Arabian accounting standards to become the Chief Financial Officer for the joint venture. This role would report into the General Manager of the joint venture and play a key role as part of the in-country leadership team, whilst being the key point of contact for various stakeholders, providing financial information and analysis and ensuring the financial integrity of the joint venture. Concurrently the role works closely with and has key responsibilities to the regional finance leader, and as a an Officer of the Company is accountable for carrying profit and loss and working capital responsibility.

 

Business partnering is a key element of the role in providing finance and decision-making support through building relationships and promoting close links with operational leadership and JV partners. The business partner element to the role is to provide analysis, insight and views in respect of the financial performance of the business, be a trusted advisor and to add value that will assist in decision making. Other key areas in the role include:

 

  • Principal interface with tax authorities on behalf of the joint venture, ensuring tax filings for the joint venture & partners are up to date
  • Development of the local finance team with consideration of Saudization targets and optimizing Wood interface and support
  • Becoming a true Finance Business Partner to the local management team whilst ensuring that the finance policies and practices of Wood are fully adopted
  • Evolving and being responsible for the whole cashflow process, to improve the DSO of the operation whilst addressing any bad debt risk as a continuous process
  • Establishing a strong relationship with the Saudi shareholder’s financial department and improve reporting to all relevant stakeholders
