Job purpose
Implement Civil engineering tasks and support executing key Civil tasks & Projects as Civil Engineer, through (1) Providing technical support in implementing the key Civil Engineering activities & Projects, initiates, finds route cause and proposes solutions to defects for on line / off line implementation, and (2) Implement Civil Engineering tasks, activities and procedures in order to ensure that the equipment design, structures and civil works meet the approved engineering design criteria, applicable codes & standards and functional requirements including compliance with department strategy and project specifications.
The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Execute the Civil Engineering technical detailed design scope and endeavour to bring out the best strategies and approaches to deliver the technical requirements.
Prepare the necessary documentation, establishing major methods and data as necessary and ensure the selection of the optimum Civil solutions from both technical and economic standpoints.
Ensure that design method, standards and data used conform to Asset Owners requirements and/or OQ specifications.
Ensure the preparation of Civil Recommendations with optimal technical solutions addressing user requirements.
Provide support to Minor Projects Delivery team and monitor quality to ensure all Civil Engineering deliverables are accomplished.
Carries out Civil engineering calculations as per company procedures and/or approved international practices and codes.
Ensure OQ Safety and Quality control procedures are followed during the execution of all works and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all design and execution works.
Participate pre and post contract award in discussions with Asset Owners to assess and assist in the definition of user requirements.
Review Civil Engineering Deliverables and participate in project reviews and workshops.
Participate in solving Civil engineering challenges that are recognized during the development of the Front End Package or detailed engineering
Identify gaps in existing practices and tools and manage the process of developing new practices or toolkit items that enhance OQ technological offerings.
Conduct or supervise site inspection for accuracy of Civil works including mechanical walk-downs.
Key interactions
Internal: Operators, Shift supervisor, Maintenance Coordinator, Process Trainer, Technical Services Department, Engineer production. All TSD Team Leaders and Engineers, Operations, Maintenance and Procurement, Contracts.
External: Contractors, Vendors & Suppliers
Notable Working Conditions. Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use.
Education requirements
Minimum Qualifications for this position is Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Language requirements
Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic - Native (desirable)
Background and experience
Competencies and skills
Engineer: Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience
Relevant experience in similar role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, preferably in the area/assets associated with this position.
Civil Engineer role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry.
Well versed on the latest International Code & Standards related to Civil Engineering
Knowledge of Engineering Software like STAAD /AutoCAD for Civil Engineer.
Experience in reviewing, executing Engineering Software like STAAD / AutoCAD for Civil Engineer
Good knowledge in Quality Assurance, Quality Control and HSE plans.
Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integration of information/ reports.
Knowledge of personal computer applications such as MS Office.
Experience in handling FEED/EPC Contracts
HSE (Permit to Work – PTW, Process Safety, H2S Awareness, Basic Fire Fighting, Emergency Response)
Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc.
Understanding of Process Plant & Engineering drawings and material data sheets.
