We need a Human Resources Director,
TEDxMaitama is an independently organised TED event operated under license from TED. It is a one-day event featuring eminent speakers from different fields that will share unique ideas about our community here in Abuja, Nigeria and beyond. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. We believe in the power of conversations to shape minds into action.

Job Position: Human Resources Director
Job Location: Abuja (Remote)

Role Summary
- The Human Resources Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for building and managing TEDxMaitama’s people systems, culture, and talent strategy.
- This role goes beyond traditional HR administration—it is about designing an organization where exceptional people can do the best work of their lives while advancing TEDxMaitama’s mission.
- The HR Director will work closely with the Convener, executive leadership, and team leads to ensure that hiring, performance, culture, and people development are aligned with TEDxMaitama’s growth objectives and values.
Key Responsibilities
People Strategy & Organizational Development:
- Design and implement TEDxMaitama’s overall people and talent strategy in line with short- and long-term organizational goals.
- Build scalable HR systems to support a growing team of staff, contractors, volunteers, and fellows.
- Advise leadership on organizational structure, role clarity, succession planning, and workforce planning.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:
- Lead end-to-end recruitment for all roles, including senior leadership, operations, creative, and program teams.
- Develop strong onboarding frameworks that integrate new hires into TEDxMaitama’s culture, values, and ways of working.
- Build and manage talent pipelines for future events, programs, and expansions.
Performance Management & Learning:
- Design and manage performance management systems, including goal setting, reviews, and feedback cycles.
- Identify learning and development needs and curate training, coaching, and leadership development opportunities.
- Support managers in building high-performing, accountable, and motivated teams.
Culture, Engagement & Wellbeing:
- Champion TEDxMaitama’s culture, values, and ethical standards across the organization.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives, team rituals, and internal communications.
- Promote wellbeing, inclusion, and psychological safety within the workplace.
Policies, Compliance & HR Operations:
- Develop, implement, and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and codes of conduct.
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian labor laws and best HR practices.
- Oversee contracts, employee records, payroll coordination, and HR documentation.
Leadership Advisory & Change Management:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Convener and leadership team on people-related matters.
- Support change management during periods of growth, restructuring, or strategic shifts.
- Handle conflict resolution, disciplinary processes, and sensitive people issues with professionalism and discretion.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage).
- 8–12+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 4 years in a senior or director-level role.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian labor laws and HR best practices.
- Proven experience building HR systems from scratch or scaling them in a fast-growing organization.
- Experience working with creative, mission-driven, or entrepreneurial teams is highly desirable.
