Job Details
Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant who will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of accounting functions across an integrated agro-industrial value chain - including farming, harvesting and transport, factory processing, packaging, sales, and maintenance operations. The role focuses on cost and management accounting, financial reporting, and strengthening internal controls to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial management that supports strategic decision-making.

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and company policies.
- Reconcile all general ledger accounts, including inter-departmental transactions across various business units.
- Assist in preparing year-end audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
- Maintain fixed asset registers, ensure timely capitalization of CWIP items, and monitor depreciation and disposals.
- Maintain accurate cost records for farming, harvesting, transport, production, and packaging operations.
- Conduct variance analysis, monitor standard costing, and track cost-per-unit metrics for key outputs and by-products.
- Prepare detailed cost of production statements, identifying trends and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Support preparation of product profitability analyses and departmental performance reports.
- Assist in developing annual budgets, forecasts, and performance tracking reports (YTD vs. Budget).
- Review and strengthen internal control systems across all operational areas.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and tax requirements (VAT, PAYE, WHT, Income Tax, etc.).
- Monitor and review inventory controls for raw materials, packaging, spares, and finished goods to prevent losses and discrepancies.
- Oversee proper documentation and authorization of all financial transactions in line with company policy.
- Conduct periodic internal checks and recommend corrective actions where control weaknesses are identified.
- Support cash flow forecasting and daily bank reconciliations.
- Review supplier payments, payroll entries, and ensure adherence to approval processes and limits.
- Liaise with financial institutions for reconciliations, confirmations, and transactional support.
- Provide financial insights and management reports to guide decision-making for leadership and operational teams.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, recovery, throughput, cost per ton, and gross margin.
- Support cross-functional teams in budgeting, cost monitoring, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of ERP/accounting systems for improved reporting and controls.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification or part qualification in ACCA, CIMA, or CPA (Finalist or Member preferred).
- Minimum 8 years' progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or agro-processing industries.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, management reporting, and IFRS.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Pastel, Tally, or equivalent) and advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated experience in internal controls, inventory management, and inter-departmental reconciliations.
- Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability.
- High integrity and professional ethics.
- Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proactive, results-driven, and committed to continuous improvement.
