About the Role

We are seeking a visionary and strategically driven Director of Tourism & Destination Development to lead the design, execution, and growth of innovative tourism strategies across key markets. This role is critical in shaping the positioning of the destination, enhancing visitor experiences, and driving sustainable economic impact through tourism.

The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, government or semi-government exposure, and proven leadership in destination development, tourism strategy, partnerships, and experiential projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Tourism Leadership

• Develop long-term tourism vision, masterplans, and growth strategies aligned with national and regional objectives.

• Identify high-potential tourism segments (culture, wellness, adventure, luxury, MICE, gastronomy, eco-tourism).

• Oversee brand positioning of the destination to elevate global awareness and competitiveness.

Destination Development & Experience Design

• Lead development of new attractions, cultural experiences, heritage sites, events, and hospitality infrastructure.

• Assess feasibility, ROI, and socio-economic impact of new tourism projects.

• Collaborate with urban planning, culture, hospitality, and investment stakeholders to bring experiences to life.

Stakeholder & Partnership Management

• Build strong relationships with government entities, tourism boards, airlines, investors, operators, DMCs, and event organizers.

• Drive public–private partnership (PPP) programs to accelerate destination growth.

• Engage with local communities to support sustainable and inclusive tourism development.

Marketing, Promotion & Visitor Growth

• Work closely with marketing teams to shape destination campaigns, content, and global promotions.

• Support participation in international tourism fairs, roadshows, and trade missions.

• Analyze visitor data, market trends, and competitive insights to adjust strategies.

Governance, Reporting & Performance

• Define KPIs for tourism growth, visitor satisfaction, economic contribution, and brand visibility.

• Ensure projects are delivered within scope, timeline, and budget while maintaining compliance standards.

• Report regularly to executive leadership on project performance, risks, and opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Business, Economics, Urban Development, or related field (Master’s preferred).

• 10–15+ years of experience in tourism development, destination strategy, mega-projects, or government entities.

• Strong background in project leadership, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional coordination.

• Deep understanding of global tourism trends, visitor behavior, sustainability, and competitive destination strategies.

• Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive large-scale initiatives.

• Leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams.
