Guiding and developing designers working in his team. Depending on size of the Job, the Principal Designer will be designated as ‘Lead Designer’ for the Project. Estimating the design & drafting man hours required for the Project during Proposal and Execution stage. Prepare man hour forecast and monitor drafting progress.
Preparation and review of all the required drawings/documents.

Primary Duties
 Preparation and review for proposals/jobs. Reviewing the contents and norms mentioned in the proposal/Project documents.
 Develop the PFD’s, P&ID’s and Mechanical Equipment Datasheets prepare technical layouts and drawings for proposal estimation.
 Allocation and distribution of drafting work to junior designers considering work load in consultation with Concerned Engineer.
 Assess total number of engineering deliverables, drafting and drawing requirements, format of delivery, time schedules and other requirements for execution of the work. Evaluate development method and software requirements; AutoCAD, Smart Plant P & ID, Vantage VPE and other relevant software.
 Issue engineering drawings for Inter-Discipline Checks (IDC’s) coordinate with other engineering discipline in the integration of technical data inputs. Prepare final drawings integrating inputs provided by other engineering disciplines. Consult and make recommendations to Engineers on feasibility of design drawings.
 Prepare the action plan for the job and responsibility of lead Designer and junior designer’s for the particular project and keep track on that.
 Review the Technical Document Register (TDR), evaluate scope of work, number of required drawings and establish design and drafting requirements. Review process schemes, designs, operating parameters, sizing and capacities, instrumentation and control requirements, Area Classification Drawings, Fire and Gas Detector Layout Drawings, Equipment Specifications, materials of construction and other documents.
 Prepare Piping and Instrumentation Flow Diagrams (P&ID’s), Block Flow Diagrams (BFD’s), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Utility Flow Diagrams (UFD’s), Heat and Material Balance, Utility and Instrument Flow Diagrams, Process Safety Diagrams, Material Selection Flow Diagrams (MSD’s), Pressure and Temperature Diagrams (PTD’s), Equipment Data Sheet Sketches, Hazardous Area Clarification Diagrams, Fire and Safety Equipment Layouts, Fire Proofing Zones Diagrams and other required layouts and diagrams. Develop first draft of the P&ID’s using the PFD and other information supplied by the Process Engineers.
 Ensure conformity of designs and layouts in accordance to Company Engineering procedures and ISO Quality Standards. Upload documents into “Documentum”, maintain and archive IDC’s, originals, check prints and Master technical drawings in accordance to Company and quality procedures.
 Maintaining the necessary documentation as per ISO standards. Updating ‘Documentum’, IDC records, Vendor documents related to design/drafting, check prints and Master drawing files.
 Performing all the duties assigned and directed by Direct Supervisor.
 Prepare job close out report with lessons learnt input to Lead Engineer.
 Provide required assistance to Discipline Supervisor for development of technical skills and overall drafting efficiency.
 Provide training to junior designers for the preparation and use of intelligent P&ID’s.
 Perform the duties of Software Administrator in case of intelligent P&ID’s.

Minimum Job Requirement :


Min 15 years related experience plus proven capability in an engineering design firm. Minimum of 10 years of experience in design of oil & gas facilities with extensive experience in front end and detailed design, plus proven experience in AutoCAD.
