This role is to drive, implement, and sustain Continuous Improvement initiatives and activities in the Area across Contract Logistics sites and operations.
This includes supporting performance management, anchoring and facilitating trainings, and deploying process improvement projects.

Key responsibilities

- Support CL Management Team to define local KPIs and ensure performance management cycles/tools are in place and followed across the CL Operations.
- Implement and sustain Continuous Improvement initiatives and activities across the Area
- Act as a change agent in order to develop and implement a systematic approach to continuous and sustainable improvement.
- Lead workshops, trainings, meetings, events, with sites teams to promote/execute standardization and CI, and bridge gaps between expectations and reality
- Together with the local sites leadership team, analyse the ‘as is’ in terms of customer satisfaction, process standardisation and execution, functional organization, wastes and inefficiencies etc: Identify current process and/or gaps and propose solutions to improve outcomes
- Coordinate and review all functional excellence activities in Area and develop change management strategies to ensure successful implementation and adoption of changes.
- Sustain CI deployment and maturity in the site’s teams in coordination with CEN and Product owners.
- Act as a true ambassador for CI in and articulate the advantages and how to deliver a better service to our customers at a lower cost

 Buyers, also known as purchasing agents, are analyzers, negotiators and deal-makers. They research, evaluate and buy products for companies to either resell to customers or use in their everyday operations.

 Key Accountabilities and process:

·         Determine buying requirements and formulate buying plan and budget for the assigned department/category

·         Align the buying plan to the overall department/category business plan and the merchandize strategy as laid down by the department/ category manager

·         Help meet the profit targets by ensuring timely procurement of the department/category Merchandise

·         Pursue cost reduction measures through centralized bulk buying and/ or selecting appropriate vendor mix, scanning the environment for benchmarks and constantly improving the purchase process

·         Develop an adequate vendor base for the concept through active scouting and negotiation / renegotiation

·         Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers and negotiate the best deals with them for procuring merchandise

·         Maintain contact with vendors; update list of vendors for bidding purposes; attend product demonstrations, obtain samples and literature regarding potential products and vendor capabilities and confer with end users

·         Identify, evaluate and select appropriate vendor mix to achieve business objectives

·         Place orders based on the buying plan and ensure merchandise is delivered as per the plan based on the agreed service level agreement

·         Implement financial and credit services agreement with the vendor that maximize profit and positively contribute to cash flow

·         Track the merchandise transportation from supplier to landmark distribution center and ensure smooth flow of goods

·         Follow the reverse logistics guidelines to send the faulty / damaged goods back to the vendor

·         Identify and leverage alternate buying opportunities to source products and to ensure that company maintains its competitive edge by constant renegotiation

·         Ensure effective communication, collation and follow-up on various product requirements and findings obtained from the sales/store data

·         Keep abreast of the latest trends in buying and discuss the same with the department/category Manager from time to time to assess realignment of existing processes

·         Gather information from Industry trade groups or through trade shows/market visits.

Job Description

As a Category Buyer, you will be expected strive to achieve excellence in the delivery of customer service to internal stakeholders within their category area. In doing so candidates will assume ownership and accountability for the following areas of activity:

Procure-to-Pay:

  • Assume accountability for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Procure-to-Pay process through effective coordination with all departments involved in the process
  • Source, negotiate and award business using best practice methodology so as to meet all departmental KPI in an ethical and auditable manner and which adheres to the Group Procurement Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure all expenditure is undertaken in a compliant manner and all supply chain risk is identified and managed
  • Manage and assist the business to resolve supplier delivery performance issues and invoice discrepancies where escalated by Accounts Payable
  • Resolve day to day supplier/contract quality and performance issues
  • Coordinate with finance to ensure all supplier invoices are paid in accordance with contracted payment terms
  • Identify and implement agreed operational improvement opportunities
  • Provide periodic performance and issue reporting 

 

Contract Management:

  • As part of the Category team manage the whole contract lifecycle for approved suppliers which shall include contract extensions / variations and renewals ensuring appropriate evaluation is undertaken to ensure maximum value for money and awarded in a timely and compliant manner
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate group spend where possible, and develop initiatives to migrate from transactional activity to contract based procurement

General:

As the function matures, as part of the transition to a supply chain management model, new and varied activities and opportunities will present themselves. Post holders shall be expected to be active contributors to the development of the department and business.

 

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Provide a comprehensive and concise monthly report tracking progress KPI, using historical reference, current state and projected future positions aligned to the overall strategies of the department and business. 
  • Use all KPI to effectively drive & achieve targeted activity, utilizing trend, projection and actual data to accurately report performance.
  • Drive responsibility, accountability and ownership of the entire supply chain through effective reporting mechanism

Procurement Systems:

Support the development of procurement systems to achieve best practice, lean and effective operating platforms and report.

To be considered for this role, you will need to have:

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (or Studying towards)
  • Business or Finance related qualification
  • 3+ years’ experience, with solid best practice procurement knowledge
  • Understanding of and experience of working within a P2P environment
  • Good understanding of Supply Chain Management delivery
  • Experience of procurement in the Middle East and ideally UAE
  • Strong customer service attitude
  • Fluent in English language (written and verbal) + Multilingual a plus
