Nurse Specialist - ICU, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital, Riyadh, KSA

Job Purpose

Provide exceptional patient driven care in a wellness environment aligned with our Leadership Standards of

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Administration 

Attend handover at shift commencement. 

Complete relevant documentation of patient care accurately. 

Adhere to procedures for storage, administration and record keeping of medication according to policies. 

Participate in the formulation of a unit philosophy, goals, objective and nursing standards. 

Be a good role model by upholding high standards of professional conduct in relation to patients, their
families, colleagues and all other members of multi-disciplinary team. 

Participates in and supports quality improvement and patient safety activities as an individual or as part of
a multidisciplinary team. 

Respects patients and their families to promote a patient-centered care culture. 

Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

Participates in the formal and informal performance appraisal processes including self-appraisal, peer
review and 360 for nurses in KAAUH. 

Take actions to achieve goals that are linked to KAAUH Strategy, professional practice and career
development.

Nursing Care 

Assumes responsibility for providing direct patient care, utilizing the nursing process. 

Provides individualized holistic care to patients using the Nursing Process approach with proper nursing
documentation in patient’s files. 

Reports all abnormal findings and progress of patients to the relevant doctor/consultant. 

Carries out orders of doctors pertaining to care of patients. 

Informs Nurse Manager when change occurs in circumstances which affects standards of care. 

Establishes a good working environment in which patient receive a high standard of care. 

Participates in the formal and informal performance appraisal processes including self-appraisal, peer
review and 360 for nurses in KAAUH. 

Take actions to achieve goals that are linked to KAAUH Strategy, professional practice and career
development.

Education 

Provide clear understandable information to patients that relates to their health based on their case of care. 

Educate patients and families on the care and management of condition and to adopt a problem solving
approach to managing complications. 

Takes personal responsibility for own professional development and keeps up to date with professional
change and growth. 

Participates in continued educational activities.

Safety Health & Infection Control 

Maintains the safety & infection control policies and ensures that all accidents / incidents / safety events
are reported to Nursing Manager.

Equipment and Medical Supplies 

Checks regularly that all equipment in the unit are in good condition and takes action accordingly when
faulty. 

Maintains adequate supply of ward stock. 

Participates in the care, custody and administration of medications in accordance with Hospital Policies
and Procedures.
