Job Profile:

Here at Auckland Council, our Leisure Centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting more Aucklanders, more active, more often. And right now, we’re looking for Learn to Swim Instructors for our West Wave Leisure Centre to help achieve that goal!

 

This is a fantastic job where you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience – just a passion to work with our diverse community and make a difference.

 

About you

 

If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a swimming instructor, that’s great – but if you don’t that’s fine too as we’ll provide all the training you need to do the job! You will need to complete your first aid certificate, have a love of water, a commitment to exceptional customer service and an ability to communicate well with adults and children.

 

What we offer

 

As a Learn to Swim Instructor, you’ll enjoy free use facilities, flexible working hours and a fun working environment. And to top it off, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing the work you do is important, and you’ll enjoy the satisfaction of watching someone gain the confidence that comes from learning how to swim.

 

Part-time working minimum of 8 hours per week during term time and additional school holiday opportunities are available. Our Swim School is a seven day per week operation, therefore flexibility and commitment to working weekdays in particular afternoons, weekends and rostered hours are paramount.

Entry Requirements:

    Must hold and maintain current YMCA or American Red Cross training certifications in the following areas:
        CPR/AED
        1st Aid
    A commitment to working with children and adults from a variety of backgrounds
    Must be mature, dependable, and proven aquatic background.
    Must be 15 years of age or older.
    Must exemplify the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Job Requirements:

    Ensure the safety and guidance for all participants and parents.
    Make sure all safety rules are followed by all.
    Arrive early to teach.
    Care for and maintain all equipment used by YMCA.
    Put all equipment back in appropriate place after use.
    Maintain a positive relationship with participants.
    Provide expertise in teaching swimming.
    Must attend ALL mandatory meetings.
    Be willing to do whatever is necessary to make YMCA Swim Program operate in an efficient and safe manner.
    Attend all training sessions, unless excused by the Aquatics Director.
