Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking an experienced leader and self-starter to join as the founding General Manager (GM) for the UAE. As General Manager for the UAE, you will report to the US-based President of Operations and have the unique opportunity to launch, develop, and own the P&L for one of the first air taxi services in the world.
This full-time role is located in Dubai, UAE. 30% travel is expected, primarily to the United States and the rest of the MENA region.
Own Your Business: The P&L owner is accountable for setting and achieving the growth and profitability targets for the region
Build the Team: Recruit, develop, and empower a high-performing local team, some of whom will matrix to US-based teams
Drive Strategic Execution: Implement a regional vision and business strategy that balances execution across marketing, business development, product, operations, and back-office
Collaborate with US Team: Work cross-functionally with Joby’s US-based headquarters functions to support global strategic initiatives and to launch a successful, safe, and compliant service in the UAE.
Analyze Performance: Proactively monitor and optimize service performance to ensure a profitable and best-in-class customer experience
Establish the Brand: Gather market insights and work closely with Joby’s marketing, business development, and communications teams to build a highly recognizable local brand
Policy & Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with local government entities and strategic partners to strengthen Joby’s regional position
Local Face of Joby: Represent Joby at all local events and with local press
Report to Joby Leadership: Provide regular updates on business performance and identify areas requiring support from the executive team and board of directors
Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
8+ years of cross-functional leadership experience
5+ years of management experience, with increasing levels of responsibility
Demonstrated success in leading and managing large, high-performing teams within a fast-paced and dynamic tech environment
Entrepreneurial mindset suited for launching and scaling a new entity
Proven track record of P&L management
Excellent communicator who can inspire teams, collaborate cross-functionally, and represent the organization with external stakeholders
Strong policy exposure and knowledge of regulatory frameworks in the region
Exceptional ability to build and execute on growth strategy
Extensive network within the region, particularly within policy, aviation, and tech, and proven ability to develop and maintain relationships
Data-driven decision-maker with a proven ability to optimize operational performance
Fluent in English, both written and verbal communication
Able to travel up to 30% of the time, including to the United States
Legally able to work in Dubai, UAE, or have the ability to be sponsored for a work visa
Required
MBA or advanced degree in relevant industry
Experience in the aviation or aerospace industry
Previously launched and scaled a business or business unit
Broad experience across the MENA region
UAE resident currently living in Dubai
Fluent in Arabic, both written and verbal communication
