Job Description

The Dive Operations Specialist is responsible in delivering an excellent guests experience by maintaining the professional appearance and cleanliness of the aquariums/animal habitats. Also, ensuring the health and safety of animals, guests and colleagues. This position acts as Designated Person in Charge (DPIC). The DPIC is the trained individual responsible for the actual diving operation for a particular dive or series of dives.

This position requires standing in a prolonged period; moves/lifts up to 45kgs of load, and in confined spaces. This position also requires to work in varying shifts based on business need. This includes: opening, mid, and closing shifts, nights, weekends and holidays.

    Maintains cleanliness, integrity and appearance of exhibits, underwater facilities throughout the park, including decretive and holding pools
    Ensures that all dive operations safety measures are followed at all times
    Authorizes and has the responsibility to discontinue diving operations when any condition occurs that may endanger the diver or dive team. Diving operations shall not be conducted without the presence of the DPIC  
    Maintains rescue skill competency and basic life support skill competency at “test ready” levels at all times
    Completes the accurate daily dive logs and records
    Ensures that all diving equipment and materials are ready prior to park operations and safely stored after park’s closing
    Reports to the leadership the status of inventory that is used for diving operations
    Maintains professional development on all OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) dive regulations
    Completes all trainings that are required by the department and facilities
    Utilizes safe handling, storage and disposal practices for toxic substances and hazardous waste in accordance with company policies
    Participates in dive emergency exercises
    Assists other Zoological team on underwater equipment as necessary

Performs other duties assigned by the leadership.

Essential:

    High School Diploma or equivalent
    SCUBA/ Rescue  Diver Certified or equivalent
    Enriched Air or Nitrox Diver certified
    CPR and First Aid certified and Oxygen Provider
    2 year diving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    40 logged open water dives within the last 2 years
    Basic English communication skills, written/verbal
    Excellent diving and in-water rescue skills
    Able to swim 200meters nonstop and 15minutes float
    Basic mathematical skills

Desirable:

    Divemaster or equivalent
    Previous diving experience in a Theme Park or related set-up
    Basic computer knowledge including MS Office

Direct diving operations, and supervise diver's members

Plan diving operations, establishing the fish to be sought, the fishing location, the method of capture, and the duration of the trip.

Aquaculture diving is undertaken to support the production of farmed marine species for a global market. Aquaculture diving involves a wide range of tasks performed in and around sea farms. Day-to-day duties of fish farm divers include:

• Net cleaning of fish cages

• Net inspection and repair

• Mortality retrievals

• Mooring checks and maintenance

• Checking, cleaning, and maintenance of feeding and camera pipes

• Fish handling operations including stocking, transferring, and harvesting

• Fish health inspection

• Retrieval of lost equipment

• Reporting back to the site/technical manager of the farm

Planning, working efficiently, and reporting observations are all necessary to get the job done effectively. Working as part of a small team, it is important to gain a close working relationship with colleagues in order to meet deadlines. The health of the fish, and other work crews, depends on your ability to carry out duties required on a daily basis.

Personal safety and safety of the crew is extremely important. Aquaculture diving can be dangerous work especially in high-risk weather conditions or in low visibility. For these reasons, aquaculture divers need to be able to remain calm in various underwater situations and to stay fit and healthy and to remain alert while on the job.

Competence in the above-mentioned tasks is not a prerequisite to the recruitment; and there will be training courses held to educate the required activities. However, the candidates should have valid and international diving certificates to be able to dive as deep as 30 meters and some fishing experience to be considered for the position.

Career Pathways

Aquaculture diving has the highest rate of dive time for any dive field; you will gain experience and log books very quickly. As you dive on a regular basis, you can obtain up to 800 logged dives a year which can be quite appealing to other dive industries having had that amount of experience. This is key to working in another dive field, such as oilrigs and construction. In addition, once knowledge is gained in the field, it is possible to progress into management roles in the aquaculture industry.

Job responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:

• To be responsible for the safety and well-being of all Hotel guests and Club members using the recreation facilities

• To provide first aid treatment or BLS in the event of any accident or injury to a guest

• Ensure guest expectations are exceeded at all times whilst displaying a helpful & cheerful attitude

• Providing help & assistance to guests while maintaining a professional appearance at all times

• Assist in the preparations of facilities for special functions & themed evenings within the Swimming pools, Beach area and WP

• When not on lifeguard duty, assist with all other duties as required by the management.

• Report any safety concerns to management in order to maintain the highest standard of guest safety at all times

• Enforce facility rules & provide crowd control in a friendly manner throughout the aquatic areas as necessary

• Ensure that all rescue / emergency equipment are well maintained and in the correct position at all times.

• To be aware and to implement all relevant aspects of Health and Safety legislation and company procedures

• Attend lifeguard courses / weekly trainings internal and external which are deemed essential by the management.
  

To move into this position you should have:

• Recognized lifeguard certificate is definite advantage. i.e. NPLQ/ NBLQ (RLSS )/ HIGHFIELD / Ellis & associates

• National lifeguard certificate must. i.e. Bronze medallion, Red Cross or equivalent certificate

• To be able to swim 400m in less than 8 min with front crawl stroke

• Sound knowledge in life guarding, CPR and First Aid

• Good communication in English language is a must

• Minimum 3 years as a lifeguard supervisor or Senior lifeguard position in the reputed hotel or beach resort

• Outdoor work and fit to work on shifts basis

• Fun, friendly & enthusiastic approach to customer service.

• Willingness to learn & develop.

• Holding open water diving qualification is an advantage.
